About Young Urban Amateur

This blog's first incarnation was a travel blog called "Pieces of the Middle East." You know how on the Faces' first album with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood - the one that has "Flying" - they're still called the Small Faces on the album cover, but nobody calls it a Small Faces album? It's kind of like that.

Anyway, it acquired the name "Young Urban Amateur" in early 2010, but it still had an old background like this one.

Around the same time, I decided to be a bit more true to its title, and focus as much as possible on dealing with the serious mostly frivolous issues involved in being a young urban amateur today, from liking obscure foreign musicians before the rich fauxhemians do to being surprised at how little you hate mainstream movies to just generally trying to figure shit out while you're living on a low budget and don't have a job that's figuring shit out for you.

Facts about the author:

The author is male.

He was born at the end of the first half of the '80s.

He is an Irish Jew.

He was born in Upstate New York, which was pretty much America's rough draft for Brooklyn.

Sometimes he wants to stop channeling Salinger and Vonnegut and stop feeling like he's still a teenager, but that is not likely.

He still looks somewhat like this photo, which was taken by Thao Nguyen, who should have her own website but instead only leaves us with this.

Also, don't be disappointed if I don't "follow" you on Google/Blogger. If I leave you comments, I am following you in Reader. I've been trying to focus on leaving comments rather than following, and I'm also trying to minimize the amount of social web platforms I use, just so that I don't end up clicking tons of different places for the same content.
